State O’Chassis (2024) 18 mins, 30 secs

A moving image work, speculating new worlds and discourses within the context of the North of Ireland. Through a decolonial feminist lens, the film delves into lost oral histories, summoning elements of chaos and resistance against colonial legacies. Revolting against occupation by articulating a vision via the potency of Caoineadh (Keening).

The work highlights the ritualistic aspects of soil, showing how extractivist practices and famine-era exhaustion led to the corruption of the land. This creates a visceral, layered narrative that blends history, ecological trauma, and cultural resilience into an experimental film that combines documentary narratives with fictional and performative elements.

Arts Council England funded this work through a project grant, and it features Alejandra Gissler, Aimee Magee, Phyllida Anam-Áire, and Cherry Smyth. We present dynamic visual case studies that validate our comprehensive solutions.
